Remove Mould

Mould removal

Mould removal quotes can describe very different jobs, from a surface clean to finding and fixing the damp behind it. The same questions to each business show which job you are being offered.

01Will you inspect the house before quoting?Ask whether the inspection is charged, and whether it comes off the job.
02What do you think is causing it?Ask whether finding the source of the damp is part of the job.
03If the cause is a leak, who fixes it?Some businesses only clean, and leave the leak to a plumber or roofer.
04How will you remove it, and with what products?Ask for the names, so you can look them up.
05Will anything need to be thrown away?Carpet or curtains, and whether replacing them is in the price.
06Which rooms and surfaces does the price cover?Ask them to list them, so two quotes cover the same areas.
07Do I need to be out of the house while you work, and for how long?Write down what they say about pets too.
08What happens if it comes back?Ask whether a return visit is included, and for how long after the job.
Ask each business the same questions and write the answers side by side. Printed, the sheet fills one page, with a column for each of three quotes. From removemould.com.au, a concept page.

What changes the price

How much area is affected, what it is growing on, and whether anything has to be removed all change the quote. Mould inside a wall cavity or roof space is a bigger job than mould on tiles or a window frame.

A price that includes tracing the damp will usually be higher than one for cleaning alone. Write down which one each business is offering.

Before the inspection

Make a list of every room where you have seen mould, and when you first noticed it. Note anything that happened around then, such as a leak, a flood or a blocked gutter.

Take photos before anyone visits, so you can show each business the same thing and compare what they say about it.

Where to check

  • ABN Lookup, Australian Business Register

Shows whether a business's ABN is active or cancelled, its business type and its GST status, and the Register says the public can use it to check a business before buying.
